Meet the BLMP student assistant team
In a collaborative blog post for the Aston University website, the BLMP Student Assistant team discussed their work on the project.
Our Researching within BLMP
Three of us have been part of The Birmingham Live Music Project (BLMP), where we have been responsible for data collection, social media campaign and general support of the core research team. It has been great to be part of the BLMP. The project gave us the opportunity to make a change in our community and connect with people that are willing to help us raise awareness about the interactive map we made.
Within this blog, we want to present to you some of the wonderful experiences we’ve had and what we’ve been able to learn from this work experience from 3 different perspectives.
It was an amazing feeling to be chosen to work together and have such a big role within a project of this magnitude. We had the great opportunity of meeting students from Birmingham City University as well being able to work alongside Patrycja Rozbicka (PI of the BLMP) and Craig Hamilton (CI of the BLMP), that really helped us in developing and executing the project plans. The chance to be a part of this project was extremely beneficial. The role included primary research which meant we had to collect data, verify and validate it through directly communicating with each venue (manager/owner). We had a lot of time and a great chance to choose which aspect of the project we’d like to help with and apply our skills, ranging from digital marketing and promotion to research and analytics.
As of right now, the 4 months that have flown enabled us as a group to understand the importance of constantly being thorough with the work we do to ensure all information is correct. We then also realised that putting effort into this type of work is going to allow us to grow even more both personally and professionally. Communication and being able to work with those that you don’t know, but have a common goal with is a part of the job that we have grown from and having deadlines and commitments, understanding that you have to be accountable for your effort and quality of production has been something we have taken from this to make us not only better students and workers, but also people as a whole.
I must say that my favourite part of the project has been being able to test myself in terms of versatility. I had the chance to research and collect data which is something that I haven’t had the chance to do in my employment history and then being given the opportunity to manage social media. The reason why I really enjoyed this was it gave me a chance to develop new skills in planning and executing digitally and these are skills I can then take into the future.
